1641. Enos Ayres Skillman was born on 16 November 1833 in New Brunswick, Middlesex, NJ. Between 1862 and 1917 he was a chief clerk. He appeared in the census in 1910 in Washington, DC. Enos died on 17 December 1917 at the age of 84 in Washington, DC. He was buried on 19 December 1917 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, DC.

Enos Ayres Skillman and Alice Middleton were married on 9 October 1867 in Washington, DC. Alice Middleton, daughter of Daniel Wesley Middleton and Henrietta Pechin, was born in March 1843 in Washington, DC. She died on 6 February 1907 at the age of 63 in Washington, DC. She was buried on 8 February 1907 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, DC.

Nannie Van Dyke Skillman, one of the first kindergarten teachers to serve in the District school system, died Sunday at Suburban Hospital. She was 86. Miss Skillman was graduated in 1898 from a school for kindergarten teachers endowed by Phoebe Apperson Hearst, mother of publisher William Randolph Hearst. In that year the District's first kindergarten was established at Buchanan School.

After teaching at Thompson School, 12th and L. streets NW for 20 years, Miss Skillman established the Croydon Inn, a tea room, on 11th street NW between F and G streets. she operated the inn until her retirement. Sprightly and alert until her recent illness, Miss Skillman lived alone at 5507 Smallwood Drive, Green Acres, Maryland. Born in a house on the site of the New House Office Building, Miss Skillman was fond of recalling her childhood on Capitol Hill. A grandfather, Daniel Wesley Middleton, was clerk of the Supreme Court from 1833 until his death in 1880, having begun his court career under Chief Justice John Marshall. Miss Skillman was a graduate of the Mount Vernon Seminary in 1888 and later served as president of its alumni association.

Survivors include a sister, Eva Garnett Thorne, and two cousins, Isabel Houghin and Marjorie Middleton. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the Robert A. Pumphrey funeral home, 7557 Wisconsin avenue, Bethesda. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 1419 Gallatin street NW She was buried on 2 January 1957 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, DC.
