65. Benjamin Skillman was born in 1729 in Somerset, Niagara, NY. Mormon Archive Record has b. Newtown, Queens, NY. He died about 1807 at the age of 78. He signed a will on 22 April 1807 in Somerset Co., NJ. Will probated 5/11/1811. Names sons Abraham (deceased), John, Benjamin, Isaac; Abraham's children, viz., Nancy, Gitty, Idah. Executors - son, Thomas, and James Stryker. Witnesses-Cornelius Simonson, Garret Nevius, Jacob Van Doren. (A. p. 268) Benjamin was buried at Skillman-Beekman Cemetery in Harlingen, Montgomery Twp., Somerset, NJ. He was a farmer and innkeeper in Griggstown, Somerset Co., NJ. His SOA Number is 16. The Marquis de Chastellux, Member of the French Academy, and Maj.-Gen. in the French Army under Count de Rochambeau, traveling in America (Travels, &c., Vol. I.), says: "We stayed all night at Somerset Court House (Millstone Village) and then crossing the River once more and getting out of a horrible slough, we halted at Gregg Town. That night we slept at Skillman's Tavern, an indifferent inn, but kept by very obliging people."

From Somerset Co., Historical Quarterly, Early Recorded Wills in Somerset - from 1804, page 62:
"Skillman, Benjamin, of Franklin twsp. (Signed name "Skilman"). Dated Apr. 22, 1807. Probat. May 11, 1811. Names sons, Abraham (deceased), John, Benjamin, Isaac; Abraham's children, viz., Nancy, Gitty, Idah. Executors - son, Thomas, and James Stryker. Witnesses- Cornelius Simonson, Garret Nevius, Jacob Van Doren. (A, p. 268)."

Benjamin Skillman and Ann "Nancy" Skillman were married in 1751 at Dutch Kills in Long Island, NY. Ann "Nancy" Skillman, daughter of Benjamin Skillman and Margaret Coe, was born in 1735 in Newtown (Maspeth Kills), Queens, NY. She died on 3 March 1795 at the age of 60. Her SOA Number is 9 ii. She was buried at Skillman-Beekman Cemetery in Harlingen, Montgomery Twp., Somerset, NJ. Tombstone:
In Christ alone I hope and trust
To rise in judgment with the just. From SOA:
Ann, b. 1735, and m. at Dutch Kills her own cousin, Benjamin, 2nd son of Isaac of Harlingen, Somerset Co., N.J. He afterward was farmer and inn keeper for many years at Griggstown N.J. Ann d. March 3, 1795, and her remains lie in the Beekman burying ground at Griggstown. They had four sons.

Was left $10 in his father's will (1807) conditioned that it be "deducted from moneys which he owes me." There is no further record.
