8553. Richard Jenkinson "Dick, Skilly" Skillman Sr. was born on 1 February 1912 in Newark, Essex, NJ. He graduated in 1934 at Princeton Univ. in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. He served in the military between 1944 and 1947 in U.S. Navy. Finished his enlistment as commanding officer, Naval Air Station, Port Lyautey, Morocco. Rank of Lieutenant. Dick, Skilly died on 13 March 1993 at the age of 81 in Orange Co., CA. DICK SKILLMAN, a popular classmate remembered for his broad smile, deep voice, and gentle humor, died Mar. 13, 1993. A son of Thomas J. Skillman 1898 and the brother of Thomas J. Jr. '31 (who died in 1984), Dick grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. After college, he worked for General Refractories Co. in that city. In the 1960s, he served for three terms as president of the Radnor (Penn.) School Board. He was a member of our Class executive Committee from 1954 to 1959.
In 1982, Dick and his wife, Elizabeth (Gilman), whom he married in 1937, moved to California to be nearer their children. Betty Skillman died in 1986. After that, Dick wrote a classmate, "Having my family here is a blessing I appreciate more and more as time goes by."
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara (Barrie), who lived with Dick in Laguna Hills, and two sons, Richard J. Jr. (Rick) '63 and Peter B., both of whom lived not far away. To them we offer our sincere sympathies.

Richard Jenkinson "Dick, Skilly" Skillman Sr. and Elizabeth Clifford "Betty" Gilman were married on 17 September 1937. Elizabeth Clifford "Betty" Gilman, daughter of Wesley Alonzo Gilman and Ida Marie Fitz Randolph, was born on 5 March 1916. She lived in Laguna Hills, CA between 1982 and 1986. Elizabeth Clifford Gilman Skillman, 69, who had been active in community affairs in the Radnor area, died Thursday  in Laguna Hills, Calif. She moved to California in 1982.

A 1934 graduate of Radnor High School, she was a member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, and served for many years on the boards of directors of the Neighborhood League and the  Memorial Library of Radnor Township.

Surviving are her husband, Richard J. Skillman; a daughter, Barbara Brucher; sons, Richard J. Jr. and Peter B.; four grandchildren; a sister, and a brother.

Services are to be held today  in Newport Beach, Calif. A memorial service is scheduled at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the George Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge.
Betty was a member. She had Social Security Number 159-54-9314.
