406. John Whitely Skillman was born on 10 August 1811 in Bedford Co., VA. He lived Home built by Uncle Christopher (SOA 88) in Bourbon Co., KY after 10 August 1849. He died on 23 November 1909 at the age of 98. John was a farmer. From Register Report: "Mr. Skillman has devoted his life to farming, stock driving to extreme South, and of late years has paid some attention to the raising of thoroughbred Cotswold sheep." His SOA Number is 87. He was buried at North Middletown Cemetery in Middletown, KY. From SOA:
Has lived his entire life in the home built by his uncle Christopher when he came from Virginia to Bourbon Co., Ky. For years, having a good voice, he led the singing in the historic "Old Cane Ridge Church."

John Whitely Skillman and Adaline Wilson Henderson were married on 2 February 1832 in Kentucky. Adaline Wilson Henderson was born about 1811 in Scott Co., KY. Her son Andrew's and husband's death certificates give her place of birth as Virginia. She died interstitial nephritis in 1848 at the age of 37 in Paris, Bourbon, KY.

John Whitely Skillman and Lydia Chambers were married on 29 November 1849 in Kentucky. They appeared in the census in 1850 at District 1 in Bourbon Co., KY. Lydia Chambers, daughter of James Chambers and Kittie Johnson, was born on 17 February 1817 in Scott Co., KY. She died on 30 September 1885 at the age of 68. She was buried at North Middletown Cemetery in Middletown, KY.

John Whitely Skillman and Harriet D. Brown were married on 27 September 1887 in Kentucky. In Bourbon County, September 27th, John W. Skillman, Sr., aged about seventy-five years and Mrs. Ephraim Horton, aged about sixty years, were married. This was the second marrige of the bride and fourth marriage of the groom. Harriet D. Brown, daughter of Nathaniel Brown, was born about 1827.
