Josephine Dorothy Onderdonk, daughter of Horatio Gates Onderdonk and Elizabeth Schenck, was born on 18 October 1835 in Manhasset, Nassau, NY. According to the 1880 census, she was born about 1840. She died after an illness of eight weeks on 15 December 1906 at the age of 71 at at her home, Ashwood in Roslyn, Queens, NY. Obit in NY Times, 16 Dec., 1906.

Bulk of it Left to Testator's Daughter - Some Charitable Bequests.

The will of Mrs. Josephine D. Skillman of Roslyn, daughter of the late Judge Onderdonk of Manhasset, was filed for probate in Nassau County on Saturday. No estimate was given of the value of the estate, except that the reallty, which includes her residence in Roslyn, was sworn to be in excess of $10,000, and the personalty in excess of $20,000.

The will, which was executed in 1899, makes several charitable bequests to churches, hospitals, and homes, as well as remembrances to relatives. A trust bequest is left to Mrs. Skillman's namesake, Josephine Sims and the balance - that is, the bulk of her estate-thought to approximate $1,000,000, is left to her daughter, Elizabeth O. Skillman. The executors are Andrew J. Onderdonk of this city, brother of the testatrix, and her nephew, Edward P. Sims of Montclair, New Jersey.
