974. Abraham Archibald Skillman was born on 2 April 1824 in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. In 1847 he was a Printer in Nassau St., NY. In 1848 he was a Half-owner of the Pacific News in San Francisco, CA. Abraham immigrated in 1850 to San Francisco, CA. In 1851 he was a Co-owner at Shasta Courier in Shasta, Shasta, CA. Founded the Shasta Courier with Samuel Dosh and J.C. Hinckley. After 1851 he was a Sheriff in Shasta Co., CA. Abraham immigrated in 1868 to Virginia City, NV. Between 1870 and 1900 he was an Editor and proprietor at Eureka Sentinel in Eureka, NV. Between 8 February 1873 and November 1878 he was a Co-owner White Pine News in Hamilton, White Pine, NV. Abraham died on 1 August 1900 at the age of 76 in San Francisco Co., CA. Death of an Old Journalist -

A. Skillman, a pioneer journalist and printer, died yesterday afternoon after a long illness. Mr. Skillman was one of the best known newspaper men on the coast. He arrived in San Francisco in 1850 and established the Pacific News, one of the first newspapers published in this city. He was also interested in Newspapers in Nevada. During President Cleveland's first term Mr. Skillman was appointed internal revenue collector for the district of Nevada and Utah. His SOA Number is 149v. In 1851 he, with two others, founded the Shasta (CA) Courier.

Abraham Archibald Skillman and Elizabeth Hicks were married in 1845. Elizabeth Hicks was born about 1819.

Abraham Archibald Skillman and Sarah A. Baker were married on 21 September 1857 in Shasta, Shasta, CA. Sarah A. Baker, daughter of William Baker and Lois Hellenbolt, was born on 28 August 1834 in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada. The Lingenfelter Archives says born Illinois 1836, dau. of Joshua Baker and Loes E. She appeared in the census in 1920 in Eureka, Eureka, NV. She died on 26 June 1933 at the age of 98 in Eureka, Eureka, NV. Sarah was buried at Eureka Cemetery in Eureka, NV. Ligenfelter Archives (online) gives Sarah A. Baker born Illinois 1836, dau. of Joshua Baker and Loes E.
