William LaFayette Hutcheson was a farmer - stockman - merchant during his active life and took quite a lot of interest in education and was an ardent patron and supporter of the Springtown Male and Female Institute, Parker County, Texas and was always active and zealous in Springtown's civic and community affairs and was alert and devoted and aggressive to the uplift and on-going of church and community affairs in general. - "Hutcheson Genealogy", Pg. 92. 2. According to William's grandson, George Oscar Hutcheson, Jr., in a telephone conversation with Marcus D. Carter on July 11, 2001, William had a hardware store in TN before he came to TX. He established another in Springtown, which was run by his son, George Oscar, Sr.

William Lafayette "Uncle Fate" Hutcheson and Ruth Doughty were married in 1855 in Parker Co., TX. Ruth Doughty was born on 27 January 1837 in Cookeville, Putnam, TN.
