1616. Josiah Skillman was born on 23 December 1836 in Hamilton Co., OH. He served in the military from April 1861 to September 1865 in Union Army. Served four years in "Merrill's Horse Cavalry" on scout duty.

He enlisted as a Private in 2 Reg't Cav. Vols. Co. C under Capt. Trevor on Aug 16, 1861 at Cincinnati, Ohio at age of 27. He was mustered in on Sept. 9, 1861 at Benton Barracks, Mo. He reenlisted Jan 5, 1864. Sargeant Oct 1, 1864. He was mustered oout Sept. 19, 1864 at Nashville, Tenn. (mo. State Archives' Soldiers Database: War of 1812 - World War I.) He died on 7 July 1919 at the age of 82 in Otwell, AR.

Josiah Skillman and Lucy Calhoun Adams were married on 23 May 1875 in Salem, Marion, IL. Illinois Marr. Index has Marion Co., 5/23/1875. Lucy Calhoun Adams was born on 20 June 1852 in Kentucky. She died on 10 February 1896 at the age of 43. She was buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Centralia, Marion, IL.

3628	i.	Nelson Skillman was born on 2 October 1876 in Marion Co., IL. He died on 30 June 1972 at the age of 95. He was buried at Zion Hill Baptist Cemetery in Marion Co., IL. Nelson served in the military in WW I. He had Social Security Number 526-24-5305 AR.
3629	ii.	Edwin Skillman was born on 22 August 1878 in Marion Co., IL. He was described as on 12 November 1909 at Illinois Hospital for the Insane in Anna, Union, IL. Thomas Wood, of Carterville, Williamson County, was killed Friday (12 Nov 1909) by Edwin Skillman, of Centralia, at the Illinois Southern Hospital for the Insane, by being hit with a marble slab while in bed. Skillman was sent to the hospital for the criminally insane in Chester. He died before 19 March 1974 at the age of 95.
3630	iii.	Amelia Skillman was born on 11 June 1880 in Marion Co., IL. She died before 1980 at the age of 100.
