559. John B. Skillman was born in 1797 in Schoharie, Schoharie, NY. He died on 30 September 1831 at the age of 34 at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, New York, NY. He was a merchant in New York Co., NY. From SOA:
Name as "John B. Skillman, merchant," is in the Directory (N.Y.) from 1820; at his death (1827) as "editor and proprietor of the Courier and Enquirer," which then passed into charge of Gen. James Watson Webb, his brother-in-law. His SOA Number is 137.

John B. Skillman and Sarah Ann Stewart were married on 27 January 1825 in Cooperstown, Otsego, NY. Sarah Ann Stewart, daughter of Alexander L. Stewart and Sarah Amelia Lispenard, was born on 18 April 1808 in Manhattan, New York, NY. She died on 16 June 1854 at the age of 46 in Utica, Oneida, NY. Alternate: died 16 Jun 1854 in Utica, Oneida, NY. She was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. From SOA:
This widow of John Skillman and mother of his two children is of the fifth generation in descent of Antoine L'Espinard (Anthony,4 Leonard,3 Anthony,2 Antoine1), a religious refugee (1669) from Rochelle, France, making his home finally at New Rochelle, America, and giving rise to one of the largest Huguenot families in this country, and specially identified with the early life and interest of N. Y. City.
