610. John Moon Skillman was born on 2 March 1797 in Wallabout, Kings, NY. He died on 10 June 1865 at the age of 68. He was buried on 13 June 1865 at Lot 2038; Section 109, Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. His SOA Number is 156. From SOA:
...from a boy was a member of First Ref. Dutch Church, Brooklyn, and like his father, long a ruling elder therein; inherited the homestead farm which he sold about 1835; First Pres. of City Bank, Brooklyn...Internments of all (children) are in Greenwood.

John Moon Skillman and Catharine Newberry were married on 13 March 1828. Catharine Newberry, daughter of Mary Bergen Barger, was born on 30 July 1794 in New York. She died on 1 February 1838 at the age of 43 in New York. She was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. She was reinterred from Long Island June 17 1852 along with many other family members. (Find-a-Grave # 36988511)

2008	ii.	John Moon Skillman was born on 29 March 1831 at 74 Remsen St. in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. He received a A.B. degree in 1849 at New York University in New York. He served in the military from 26 August 1861 to 13 July 1865 in Union Navy. He served as pay clerk from Aug. 26, 1861 to Oct. 15, 1862 on the U.S.S. Potomac. Then starting on Nov. 14 and until Feb. 12, 1864, he served as acting paymaster and captain's clerk on the U.S.S. Bohio. He transferred to the U.S.S. Meteor, serving on that vessel as Assistant Paymaster until his death in Mobile Bay on July 13, 1865. John died on 13 August 1865 at the age of 34 in Mobile Bay, Mobile, AL. Died of dysentery. He was buried on 15 August 1865 at Lot 2038; Section 109, Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. While attending New York University he, along with John Sommers and William Dayton, founded the fraternity Zeta Psi, formally creating it on June 1, 1847. He was the first president of the Phi chapter.

2010	iv.	Mary Emily Skillman was born on 14 February 1835. She died on 14 February 1841 at the age of 6. She was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, NY.

John Moon Skillman and Mary Kelly Duffield were married on 26 November 1839. They appeared in the census in 1850 at Ward 3 in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. Mary Kelly Duffield, daughter of John Duffield and Eleanor Kelly, was born on 18 March 1808. LDS, Gen. of Pa. Families, GPC, Vol Hi-So, pg 372.
SNY has 5/8/1808. She died on 18 February 1883 at the age of 74. She was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings, NY.
