5302. Judge George Richard "Dick" Skillman was born on 1 January 1924 in Leroy, McLean, IL. He died on 24 February 2011 at the age of 87 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, FL. George Richard “Dick” Skillman, 87, Mahomet, passed away Thursday (Feb. 24, 2011) at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Chestnut St., LeRoy. The Rev. Mary Louise Haxton will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Kirby Funeral Home, Homer, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to LeRoy First United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Mr. Skillman was born on Jan. 1, 1924, in LeRoy, a son of Edgar L. and Irene Moss Skillman. He married Louise Kirby on Oct. 28, 1949, in LeRoy. She survives. Also surviving are two nieces, Kay (Vonne) Linse, Columbus, Ohio, and Becky (Hap) Zook, Morton; and many nieces and nephews on the Kirby side of the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ellen Iden.
He retired as a judge for Champaign County after many years of service.
Mr. Skillman was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He was a 32nd-degree Mason. He was of the Protestant faith. He and his wife, Louise, were faithful members of many churches in Illinois and Florida through their 61 years of marriage. His hobbies included boating, fishing and travel.

His hobbies were boating, fishing and traveling

Louise Nellie Kirby, daughter of Henry Kirby and Susan Cummins, was born on 27 December 1928. She lived in Mahomet, Champaign, IL in October 2013. She died on 8 October 2013 at the age of 84 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Champaign, IL. Louise was buried on 11 October 2013 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Leroy, McLean, IL. She was an owner-realtor at Skillman Realty in Champaign-Urbana, IL. She was a member at LeRoy United Methodist Church in Leroy, McLean, IL.
