SKILLMAN - Thomas Stryker Skillman, 100, passed away at Stonebridge at Montgomery on Saturday, April 21, 2012. At Tom's age he had time to prepare for this event, here are his words:
"I was a life member of Blawenburg Reformed Church which my great-grandfather helped to build. I also served on the Consistory a number of times as an elder and a deacon. I was a member of The Sons of the Revolution, Princeton Chapter, and a life member of the Montgomery Fire Department No. 2, and the last remaining member of the original 12 who organized the fire company. I was also a Sunday school teacher for a number of years, along with my mother, father, sisters, brothers and daughter, I was a member of the first recreation commission in Montgomery Township, a longtime member of the Montgomery Men's Breakfast Club, a member of the Van-Harlingen Historical Society, and a trustee of the Beekman Cemetery. I loved my family, my church and a host of friends.
You know, maybe I wasn't such a bad guy. I married the greatest women in the world, well I think she was, Beatrice Smalley Skillman, who predeceased me in 1993. I was the son of the late Frederick and Elva Stryker Skillman, and predeceased by my son, Frederick T. Skillman; my great-granddaughter, Cynthia Carol Weingart; my sisters, Reba Baird and Mary Van Cleef, and my brother, Harold Skillman. I have been survived by my daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Joseph Harcarik; three grandsons, Timothy Hunt and his wife, Wendy, J. Thomas Harcarik and his fiancee, Mary, and Daniel Harcarik and his wife, Deanna; my granddaughter, Susan Weingart and her husband, Scott; my great-grandchildren, Brad, Jeff and Eric Hunt, and Jessica Weingart; a brother, A. Dix Skillman and his wife, Virgina; my sisters-in-law, Mildred Prugh and Jean Skillman; plus several nieces and nephews, and many close and loving friends. I was a lucky man."
