Leona Mae Stubbe, daughter of Henry H. Stubbe and Bessie Mae Mammenga, was born on 17 September 1928 in George, IA. She died on 19 October 2004 at the age of 76 at Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, MN. Services were Friday, October 22, at Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids. The Rev. Robert Raedeke officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George, Iowa. Leona Stubbe was born to Henry H. and Bessie M. (Mammenga) Stubbe on September 17, 1928, at George, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near George. She was baptized at Hope Reformed Church in George. She graduated from George High School. She married Raymond Skillman on February 15, 1947, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sioux Falls for a short time, and in December 1948 they moved to George. She worked for Swalve Produce for several years. Later, the couple moved to Garretson, South Dakota and worked in a hatchery. From Garretson they moved to Brandon, South Dakota and later to Harrisburg, South Dakota, where they worked as custodians. She later took a job at Brimark Inn in Sioux Falls and worked there until she retired in 1987. During their retirement they lived in Ellsworth and Rock Rapids. Mr. Skillman died May 26, 1998. She moved to Parkview Manor October 13, 2004. Mrs. Skillman enjoyed raising and showing rabbits, watching baseball, fishing trips, playing bingo, growing violets and raising Chinese Pugs. Survivors include three children, Judy (Gary) Meester and Earleen "Lynn" (Ron) Hinrichs, Ellsworth, and Laureen (Norbert Sr.) Fick, Luverne; eight grandchildren, dawn (Mike) Van Den top, Rock Rapids, Larry (Gwen) Meester, Jody (Merrily) Hinricks, Chris (Ray) Palmer, all of Ellsworth, Shawn (Shelley) Fick, Vermillion, South Dakota, Daniel (Ellen) Fick, Olivia, Norbert Jr. (Katie) Fick and Dominic Meester, Sioux Falls; 10 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; one brother, Lawrence Stubbe, George; and one sister Jayne Early, Sioux Falls, Iowa. Mrs. Skillman was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond and one sister, Betty. Roste Funeral Home, Rock Rapids, was in charge of the arrangements.
