8334. Edgar Hunt "Ed" Skillman was born on 23 August 1914 in Gladstone, Somerset, NJ. He served in the military as a Lieutenant from 1933 to 1957 in U.S. Navy. Edgar (Ed) Hunt Skillman, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, age 95, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Simi Valley, on Dec. 28, 2009.

Ed is preceded in death by Eula Mae Skillman, the mother of his children, and beloved wife Pilar Skillman, whom he met at age 60 and shared many happy years before her passing in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his sister Jeannette Porter, daughter Suzanne Lopez, and grandson Jason Black.

Ed is survived by his loving son, Joseph Skillman and devoted daughters Julie Williams (George Haine), Carol Yackel (Dale), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy between 1933 and 1957 and retired with the rank of Lieutenant with numerous honors. He was a member of the Masonic lodge while living in Arizona from the 1960's to 2004. He appreciated classical music and competitively playing board games with his family.

A staunch Republican, he enjoyed reading about current events and political history. In his later years, he traveled to Maui regularly, where he relived happy memories of his years at sea.

A service honoring his life will be held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA on Jan. 2, 2010 beginning with a visitation from 8 a.m.- 12 p.m., continuing with a church service at 1 p.m. , and concluding with a military honors graveside service.

Edgar Skillman will be remembered as a man of integrity with true strength of character. He had a stern look, a sweet smile and a dry sense of humor. He loved his family and was well-loved in return.

Ed's family would like to acknowledge the good people who assisted the family with his extensive medical care during the past two years: Dr. Corrina Mosher and staff, "Prince" Albert Aragones, Heather Orozco, and Becky Carpenter.

Edgar Hunt "Ed" Skillman and Pilar "Pearl" Ausere were married on 17 July 1973 at LDS Temple in Mesa, Maricopa, AZ. They lived in Payson, AZ from 1979 to 2001. Pilar "Pearl" Ausere, daughter of Jose Ausere and Josefa Unknown, was born on 23 July 1913 in Miami, Gila, AZ. She died on 4 April 2005 at the age of 91 at RTA Hospice in Payson, AZ. Mrs. Pilar ("Pearl") AusereĀ  Skillman 91, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at the RTA Hospice in Payson, Az. She was born the second of six children, July 23, 1913 in Miami, Az, the daughter of Jose and Josefa Ausere . Her parents emigrated from Navasa, Spain in 1911. Pilar married Edgar H. Skillman on July 17, 1973 in the Mesa, Az LDS Temple. Prior to her marriage to Ed, Pilar was married to Charles Senseney, Eddie Wingfield, and Tony Johnson. Ed and Pilar were longtime residents of Payson, Az, having lived there from 1979 through 2001. Pilar joined the LDS church in 1961 and remained an active member. Pilar is survived by her husband, Ed, her children, John Senseney, of Sedona, and Carole (Senseney) Spears, of Tonto Basin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren seventeen great grandchildren six great great grandchildren, and by one brother, Joe M. ("Bud") Ausere , of Dallas, Tx. Pilar was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura (Wingfield) Dana. Funeral services will be Friday, April 8, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 913 S. Ponderosa St., Payson, Az, under the direction of Stake President James Hollobaugh. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Phoenix. Arrangements by Messinger Payson Funeral Home.

Edgar Hunt "Ed" Skillman and Eula Mae Eggleston were married. Eula Mae Eggleston, daughter of Newton Compton Eggleston and Ivy Mae Wilson, was born on 1 April 1915 in Gonzales Co., TX. She died on 23 March 1996 at the age of 80 in Simi Valley, CA.
