4090. Alexander Stewart Phinney was born on 1 January 1864 in Cooperstown, Otsego, NY. He died on 17 December 1949 at the age of 85 in Cooperstown, Otsego, NY. Alexander worked in the real estate and insurance business for more than 50 years. At his death, he was “one of Otsego County’s oldest real estate men” (obituary, Utica Daily Press, 20 Dec 1949). He was a member of the Mohican Club and of the Presbyterian church in Cooperstown. He was a life-long resident of 56 Pioneer Street in Cooperstown.

Alexander Stewart Phinney and Mary Louise Bancroft were married on 30 July 1921 in New Hartford, Litchfield, CT. Mary Louise Bancroft was born in 1881 in New Hartford, Litchfield, CT. She died in 1975 at the age of 94 in Cooperstown, Otsego, NY. She was . Mary Louise was the assistant principal of the Knox School in Cooperstown from 1911 until 1948 and its principal from 1948 until 1958. She oversaw its successful move from Cooperstown to the beautiful North Shore of Long Island in 1954.
