1414. Alexander Henry Holcombe was born on 1 June 1821 in Huntingdon Valley, Montgomery, PA. He appeared in the census in 1860 at a hotel in Lambertville, Hunterdon, NJ. He died on 9 April 1886 at the age of 64. Alexander was a merchant, lawyer, Judge Advocate in Huntingdon Valley, Montgomery, PA. He was elected as Mayor in Lambertville, Hunterdon, NJ. He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lambertville, Hunterdon, NJ. Alexander served in the military Brigade Colonel on staff of Gov. of NJ. Civil War in Union Army. He attended the first Holcombe Reunion, Leroy, PA, Oct 9, 1879.

This elegant Second Empire-style stone house was constructed in 1871 for the Holcombe family, descendants of Lambertville’s first settler, farmer and landowner. The house stands in testimony to the growth and prosperity that Lambertville experienced
in the latter half of the 1800s, due to its proximity to the canal, railroad and local industries. Used as a social club in the early 20th century, the building has been home to city offices since 1950.

Alexander Henry Holcombe and Malvina Kay Mentz were married on 11 April 1867. They appeared in the census in 1870 in Lambertville, Hunterdon, NJ. Malvina Kay Mentz was born on 28 June 1839. She died on 4 December 1906 at the age of 67.
