6617. John Frosch "Johnny" Skillman Sr. was born on 12 March 1907 in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. Between 1927 and 1934 he was an assistant coach at Princeton Univ. in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. Between 1934 and 1975 he was a head coach of squash racquets at Yale Univ. in New Haven, New Haven, CT. "Mr. Skillman's teams won 452 matches and suffered only 79 defeats. His 1958 team won the national amateur championship and his teams of 1961, 1962 and 1963 took the national intercollegiate crown." (NY Times obit)

What is Skillman Associates?

Skillman Associates is an association of former team players, alumni, parents and friends of Yale Squash, whose purpose is to provide financial support and improvement of Yale's squash program. Members of Skillman Associates pay annual dues, get regular updates on the teams' progress and are invited to attend matches, to cheer their teams, and to participate in various squash initiatives, such as in Alumni Day at the Courts which coincides with a major Home match.

The name honors John Skillman, Yale's first head coach, whose teams won 16 national titles and had just one losing season during his 41-year tenure from 1934-1975.
His publications include Squash Racquets published by in 1964. Johnny died of a heart attack on 20 October 1977 at the age of 70 at at home, in New Haven, New Haven, CT. Obit in New York Times, Oct 21, 1977 He had Social Security Number 080-07-1424.

John Frosch "Johnny" Skillman Sr. and Elsie Astrid Sofia Wright were married in June 1928 in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. They met in Princeton (N.J.) High School. Elsie Astrid Sofia Wright, daughter of Harry Wright and Alma Ahlquist, was born on 14 November 1909 in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. Obit in New Haven(CT) Register, 5/4/2003. She died on 2 May 2003 at the age of 93. Death benefits sent to Hallowell, Kennebec, Maine

Elsie A. Skillman, 93, formerly of New Haven, died May 2. She was  the widow of John F. Skillman Sr. She was an elementary school  teacher in Princeton, N.J.
