Skillman, retired partner in the certified public accounting firm of Skillman, Boyle & Pollack of Troy, and a long-time member of the AAA Michigan Board of Directors, died Monday (April 28) at Providence Hospital and Medical Centers of Southfield. He was 74.
A native Detroiter, Mr. Skillman was senior partner in the accounting firm he founded. In 1955, he was awarded the Michigan Association of Public Accountants Distinguished Service Award for significant contributions to his profession.
Mr. Skillman was a member of the AAA Michigan board since 1967 and served as its chairman from 1975 through 1977. He was chairman of the American Automobile Association (AAA) from 1982 to 1985, and the fourth Michiganian to become National AAA chairman. He also was a past president of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
His many business and civic involvements included First State Bank of Charlevoix, the boys and girls clubs of America.
Mr. Skillman was a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants; Detroit Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite Bodies of Detroit; Huron River Hunting and Fishing Club, and a former officer and director of the The Detroit Athletic Club, sometimes called the DAC, is a very exclusive athletic club in the heart of Detroit's theater, sports, and entertainment district designed by Albert Kahn and inspired by Rome's Palazzo Farnese.
William lived in Farmington, Oakland, MI on 28 April 1997. He was buried at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, MI. He served in the military WW II in U.S. Navy.
