6176. Voorhees Leroy Skillman Jr. was born on 23 October 1919 in New Jersey. He graduated in 1940 at University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance in Pennsylvania. He served in the military from 25 May 1943 to 4 March 1946 at Ft. Dix, NJ, Camp Edwards, Ft. Devens, MA in U.S. Army. He enlisted as a Private at Newark, NJ.

Chapter XVI - Service in the States

Army personnel work was allotted to V. Leroy Skillman, Jr., T/4, throughout his military service. His experience in civilian life as an employee of the Calco Chemical Division, American Cyanamid Company, at Bound Brook, had qualified him for this special activity. Skillman entered the Army May 25, 1943,and spent a year at Fort Dix, New Jersey, interviewing recruits for assignment to military specialties. Another twelve months was devoted to processing records in the Separation Center at Fort Dix as well as Camp Lee, Virginia. His last nine months in the Army at Camp Edwards and Fort Devens, Massachusetts,involved duty as a vocational counselor, assisting patients in convalescent hospitals to select new vocations and develop their training programs. Skillman received his discharge March 4, 1946. Voorhees died on 5 April 2009 at the age of 89 at University Medical Center in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. Obit in The Times, Trenton, NJ, on 4/8/2009. He was buried on 8 April 2009 at Dayton Cemetery in Dayton, NJ.

Everett Errickson and Mary Louise Farr, was born on 1 November 1916 in Dayton, NJ. She died on 4 September 2009 at the age of 92. Leroy Skillman, Jr. Dorothy will be loved and remembered by her two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Skillman and Kenneth and Nancy Skillman; four grandchildren, Suzanne Finkenbine, Matthew Skillman, Rebecca Robinson, and Abigail Hamilton; and nine great-grandchildren.
