6063. Col. Charles Spencer Skillman was born on 28 May 1914 in Skillman, Somerset, NJ. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering degree in June 1933 at Rutgers Univ. in New Brunswick, Middlesex, NJ. Elected to Tau Beta Pi, the national honorary engineering society, in his Junior year. He served in the military Colonel, ret. between 1936 and 1966 in U.S. Army. During WW II, he served with the 45th Engineer Regiment in northeastern India and Burma. The 45th Engineers supported the Northern Burma Campaign with construction of roads, bridges and airfields. He commanded Company C of 1st battalion, then commanded 1st Battalion, and finally was second-in-command of the 45th Engineer Regiment. Following WW II, he served in the occupation of Germany. He graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in June 1951 and from the Armed Forces Staff College in Jan. 1955. Other key assignments were department director at Engineer Research and Development Laboratories, dept. director at the Army Engineer School... Charles received a MS in civil engineering degree in June 1948 at Texas A&M University in Texas. He died on 9 January 2005 at the age of 90 in Tampa, Hillsborough, FL. SKILLMAN, Charles Spencer, retired U.S. Army colonel, died January 9, 2005. Born May 28, 1914, in Skillman, N.J.. Graduated from Rutgers University in June 1933 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and from Texas A&M University in June 1948 with a Master of Science degree in civil engineering. At Rutgers University in his Junior year, he was elected to Tau Beta Pi, the national honorary engineering society. He was a registered professional engineer in the states of Texas and Florida. He served in the U.S. Army 1936-1966, when he retired. During World War II, he served with the 45th Engineer Regiment in northeastern India and Burma. The 45th Engineers supported the Northern Burma Campaign with construction of roads, bridges and airfields. He commanded Company C of 1st Battalion, then commanded 1st Battalion, and finally was second-in-command of the 45th Engineer Regiment. Following World War II, he served in the occupation of Germany. He graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in June 1951 and from the Armed Forces Staff College in January 1955. Other key assignments were department director at Engineer Research and Development Laboratories, department director at the Army Engineer School, group commander of the 931st Engineer Group (Construction), commander of the U.S. Army Engineer Maintenance Center, senior engineer advisor to the Republic of Korea Army Engineers, and director of logistics of the Army Test and Evaluation Command, where he received special recognition for support of the Army Missile Program. Following retirement from the Army, he was deputy director for all buildings and utilities at Texas A&M University. Subsequently, he served in the engineering division of the public works department of the City of Tampa. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and president of the Bay Crest Civic Association 1969-1971. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle E., with whom he celebrated 71 years of marriage; his children, daughter, Sandra M. Patterson
, and spouse, Robert L.; son, Charles S. Skillman Jr., and spouse, Janis M.; daughter, Eileen L. Norris; daughter, Diane E. Grooters, and spouse, John A.; and son, Ross H. Skillman, and spouse, Barbara J.; and niece, Diane E. Hammett, and spouse, Anthony W. Other family members include 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 13, at Brewer & Sons Funeral Home with service following at 7 p.m. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 14, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

"SKILLMAN, Myrtle Emma Heaton, 90, of Tampa, passed away July 14, 2005. She was married for 71 years to the late retired U.S. Army Col. Charles Spencer Skillman. She was born December 2, 1914, in West Hoboken, N.J. Myrtle Skillman served her communities for 71 years. During and after World War II, she volunteered with the Grey Ladies and the Red Cross. For over 35 years, she worked in the Girl Scouts as a leader, trainer, chairman and professional. While living in Tampa, she was an active member in The Tampa Club Grads and the Tampa Bay Area Women's Club, Inc., in which she served as officer and committee chairman. She also remained active in the Baycrest Garden Club, her bridge group and Crafty Ladies. She was a member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. Artist, gourmet cook, star gazer, our mother's interests were diverse and she excelled in many fields. Her avid curiosity and continuous quest for knowledge were ever an inspiration. She sustained us with an inexorable zest for life and her incredible strength of will. She was our greatest fan..."
