6171. Matthew Suydam 3rd was born on 2 February 1905 in Three Mile Run, New Brunswick, Somerset, NJ. He was baptized on 4 November 1905. He died on 3 July 1999 at the age of 94 in Pennswood Village, Newtown, PA. Matthew Suydam, Jr.

Matthew Suydam, Jr., died Saturday, July 3, 1999 at his home in Pennswood Village, Newtown. He was 94. He was born on the family farm in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, N.J., and lived there until moving to Malvern, Pa. where he resided from 1944 to 1947. He moved to Doylestown in 1947 and lived there until moving to Pennswood Village in 1984.

He was a 1924 graduate of the George School, Newtown. Before retiring in 1977 Mr. Suydam was the owner for 30 years of Doylestown Bottled Gas, a business that he established in 1947. Prior to that he was the head of the Agricultural Loan Department at People's National Bank, Norristown. He also had been the personnel manager for the Fidelity Electric Company, Lancaster for several years. Mr. Suydam was the owner/operator of the Kingston Flour Mill, Kingston, N.J. from 1937 to 1942. He also was a dairy farmer while living on the family farm.

He was a 50 year members, Sunday School teacher and elder of the Doylestown Presbyterian Church. He was a former member and had served on the consistory of the Six Mile Run Reformed Church, Franklin Park, N.J. Mr. Suydam was a longtime member of the board of directors of the Elmridge Cemetery Association, North Brunswick, N.J. He also was a former member of the Franklin Township Board of Education.

His hobbies included baking, gem cutting and silk needle point tapestry. He was predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Cassie Skillman Suydam; a sister Mary Suydam Hageman; a brother, Henry S. Suydam. Surviving are his wife, Prudence Wallis Suydam; a stepson, Richard Gordon Stafford, Jr., of Lafayette, La., a daughter, Barbara Suydam, of San Diego, Calif; and a brother, Abram J. Suydam, of Somerset, N.J.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Barclay Terrace Room at Pennswood Village, 1382 Newtown-Langhorne Road, Newtown. Private burial will be in the Elmridge Cemetery, North Brunswick, N.J. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. [Quackenboss Funeral Home, New Brunswick, N.J.]

Matthew Suydam 3rd and Prudence Wallis were married on 8 April 1944 in Malvern, PA. Prudence Wallis, daughter of Allan D. Wallis and Jane Proctor, was born on 26 August 1906.
