Harrison died on 8 November 1895 at the age of 54 at City Hospital, Kingston in Ulster, NY. Harrison A. Skillman, died November 8, 1895 at Kingston City Hospital, at 11:30 p.m. of lingering illness. Was former editor of the Freeman. Buried with military honor by the G.A.R [Grand Army of the Republic.]

Harrison Anderson Skillman, eldest son of James Read Skillman and Rosetta Anderson, born at Princeton, New Jersey, May 9, 1841. Mother died in his infancy his father in 1864 where they and his only brother Charles Worrell Skillman are buried - at Princeton. His two sisters married live at Trenton, New Jersey. At 15 Harrison Anderson Skillman left Princeton and went to Havre-de-Grace, Maryland, there learned printers' trade with John K. Donnelly, serving 4 years apprenticeship. Left Maryland after 1st Bull Run battle and went to Trenton, New Jersey, where August 13, 1861 he enlisted in Company D 4th volunteers, New Jersey under Captain Samuel Mulford and served through the war - discharged July 25, 1865 as Captain of Company I was with Army of the Potomac from its organization and served under McClellan, Burnside, Hooker, Meade and Grant. His Regiment connected with 6th Corps in the Kearney Brigade. After war went to Vineland, New Jersey there in infancy. In newspaper work. Then secured position in government printing office in Washington as proof reader on census work under general Francis P. Walker. Was also proof reader writer City Editor of Daily True American at Trenton and legislative reporter for Senate. Their edited the Kingston Freeman. Also was telegraphy and general news editor of Troy Times. After 1886 was managing editor New Haven Palladian and also of Meridian Record. Health failing he had to retire.

Was twice married (1) Carolyn L. Ellis, Trenton, January 16, 1864; died January, 1875; m (2) Kate de Groff, Rondout, New York, January 29, 1878. Children: Bertha G., Etta C. and Anna de Groff. He was buried about 11 November 1895 in Princeton, Mercer, NJ. He was a Printer in Havre de Grace, Harford, MD. From SOA: Printer at Havre-de-Grace, MD before Army service. Printer at Vineland, N.J.; then Gov't. proof reader at Wash. D.C.; later editor of Daily True American, Trenton; finally of Kingston (N.Y.) Freeman.

Harrison Anderson Skillman and Carolyn L. "Carrie" Ellis were married on 16 January 1864 in Trenton, Mercer, NJ. Carolyn L. "Carrie" Ellis died in January 1875.

Rosetta Carolyn "Etta" Skillman was born in 1866. She was living in 1907 in Vineland, Cumberland, NJ.

Harrison Anderson Skillman and Catherine Eliza "Kate" de Groff were married on 29 January 1878 in Village of Rondout, Ulster, NY. Catherine Eliza "Kate" de Groff, daughter of William Henry de Groff and Anna E. Terpening, was born in December 1849. She appeared in the census on 11 July 1870 in Village of Rondout, Ulster, NY. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Kingston, Ulster, NY. Kate died on 19 September 1928 at the age of 78 in Kingston, Ulster, NY.
