He lived 1726 Floyd St. in Louisville, Jefferson, KY on 12 March 1891. He died on 20 March 1891 at the age of 37 in Columbus, IN. Shot by Lambert N. Goldsmith at the Seventh Street train station in Columbus, Indiana on March 12th, 1891. He lingered until the 20th. The gun was a Smith & Wesson self-acting revolver loaded with gun powder and a leaden ball.. Robert was a traveling salesman (drummer) in Louisville, Jefferson, KY. Employed by Wm. Springer & Sons of Louisville, wholesale dealers in seltzer water and ginger ale.

Robert Taylor Skillman and Elizabeth Wade "Lizzie" Herr were married in 1878. Elizabeth Wade "Lizzie" Herr, daughter of George Walker Herr and Lucy Snead, was born in August 1858 in Kentucky. She appeared in the census in 1900 at 205 E. Broadway in Louisville, Jefferson, KY. Ancestry has the family listed as "Shillman." She appeared in the census in 1920 at Slevin Court in Louisville, Jefferson, KY. Lizzie lived at 1207 Cecil Ave. in Louisville, Jefferson, KY before 29 August 1930. She died of arteriosclerosis on 29 August 1930 at the age of 72 in Louisville, Jefferson, KY. She was buried on 1 September 1930 in Cave Hill.
