2772. James Humphrey Skillman was born in December 1855 in Missouri. He died before 1956 at the age of 101.

James Humphrey Skillman and Mary B. Shanks were married on 31 December 1890 in Osage County, KS. Richard L. Shanks, farmer, section 3, post-office Westport, was born January 14, 1842 in Stamford, Lincoln County, Kentucky, and came to this county with his parents when five years of age, and has been reared here as a farmer. During the late War he operated General Rains, and carried the first Confederate dispatch that was carried in the state of Missouri. Since the War he has been engaged in farming. He is correspondent for different papers, and takes great interest in literary matters. He married Miss Mary H. McKinney, August 18, 1859; she is a native of Calloway County, Missouri, and was born November 24, 1841. They have four children living: Ala L., Mary B., Charlie L., and Dixie L.; lost seven. They are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He has the honor of being the grandson of the first white child born in the state of Kentucky. Mary B. Shanks, daughter of Richard L. Shanks and Mary H. McKinney, was born in February 1865 in Westport, Jackson, MO.
