He died on 20 May 2006 at the age of 91 at at home in Newtown Square, PA. Norman Skillman, 91, of Newtown Square, PA,, retired president of Chester County Hospital, died of complications from Parkinson's disease Saturday at home. As director and later president of Chester County Hospital in West Chester for 25 years, Mr. Skillman oversaw an expansion of the hospital while keeping a close eye on costs, his daughter Susan Cook said. He testified before a Senate committee investigation into hospital costs, she said, and had served on the board of Blue Cross in Pennsylvania. He retired in 1977. Mr. Skillman graduated from Chester High School and Taylor School of Business in Philadelphia. He worked in the financial offices of Sun Oil Co. and Houdry Process Corp. in Marcus Hook for 15 years and was assistant administrator at Chester Hospital for four years before joining Chester County Hospital. He served on the board of the Kate Furness Library in Swarthmore and the Tyler Arboretum. He enjoyed reading biographies and well into his 80s played tennis with friends every week. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Skillman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Getty Skillman; daughters Priscilla and Sydney; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Skillman donated his body to science. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. next Friday at White Horse Village auditorium, 535 Gradyville Rd., Newtown Square. Paul J.
