On June 15, 2012, I'm assuming that this William is also called Gilbert, since his parents and wife match most literature on Gilbert. He was probably named William Gilbert, or the reverse, and simply only used Gilbert as an adult. One possible flaw is that Gilbert's father is claimed to have died when Gilbert was very young, but William's father died much later. Also, Family Search says Gilbert was born in Washington Co., MO, but I have William born in Kingston, NJ. William Gilbert Skillman and Sarah Newton "Sallie" May were married on 23 December 1846 in Daviess Co., KY. Family Search has their marriage in Hesse Cassel, Germany. They appeared in the census in 1870 at Murry Precinct, in Pleasant Ridge, Daviess, KY. Sarah Newton "Sallie" May, daughter of William May and Susan Rice, was born in 1829 in Kentucky.
