6778. William Aubrey Skillman was born on 8 December 1913 in Virginia. Between 1958 and 1981 he was a commissioner of revenue in Williamsburg, (Indep. City), VA. Before 1959 he was a civil employee at Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, York, VA. William died on 12 January 1993 at the age of 79 in Williamsburg, (Indep. City), VA. WILLIAMSBURG William Aubrey Skillman, 79,Williamsburg commissioner of revenue for 22 years, died Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Mr. Skillman was elected commissioner in 1958 and served until his retirement in 1981. Prior to his work with the city, he was a civilian employee at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station.
A World War II veteran of the Navy's Seabees, Mr.Skillman was past member and commander of American Legion Post 39 and was former steward of Masonic Lodge 6. He was also a member of the Pulaski Club and the Williamsburg Exchange Club. The lifelong Williamsburg resident was a charter member of the Williamsburg Jaycees and helped organize the Victory Club at James Blair High School and build the press box at Cooley Field.
Mr. Skillman graduated from Fishburne Military School and attended the College of William and Mary. He was a life -long member of Williamsburg Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Hope S. Skinner and Nancy S. Walker of Williamsburg; and three grandsons.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Bucktrout Funeral Home. Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

He was buried on 15 January 1993 at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg, (Indep. City), VA. He served in the military World War II in U.S. Navy. He served 34 months with the Seabees, the U.S. Naval Construction Co. He was a commander of American Legion Post 39 in Williamsburg. William had Social Security Number 223-05-3064. He was educated at College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, (Indep. City), VA. He was member at Williamsburg Methodist Church in Williamsburg, (Indep. City), VA.

William Aubrey Skillman and Virginia Rozell were married. Virginia Rozell was born on 19 August 1916 in Cumberland, VA. She died on 29 October 1990 at the age of 74 in Williamsburg, (Indep. City), VA. WiLLIAMSBURG - Virginia Rozell "Rose" Skillman, 74 died Monday, October 29, at home. Mrs. Skillman was a native of Cumberland and had been a resident of Williamsburg since 1947. She was a registered nurse. Mrs. Skillman was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Churc, the Fellowship Bible Class and the Olive Casey Circle. She was also a past president of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and the United Methodist Women.

For five years, she served as Chariman of Nursing Services for the local chapter of the American Red Cross and was a former board membe rof the Woman's Club.

Survivors include her husband, Aubrey Skillman; two daughters, Hope Skinner and Nancy Walker, both of Williamsburg; two sisters, Beulah Lewis of Newport News and Viola Ross of Baltimore; two brothers, Earl Rozell and Billy Rozell, both of Richmond; and three grandsons.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bucktrout Funeral Home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Williamsburg Emergency Medical Services, 440 N. Boundary street, Williamsburg 23185. She was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg, (Indep. City), VA. Virginia graduated at Univ. of Virginia School of Nursing in Virginia. She was a registered nurse. She was a former supervisor of Buxton (now Mary Immaculate) Hospital. She also served as asst. dir. of Williamsburg Community Hospital in the '60s.
