80, a longtime resident of Truro, died Friday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known as "Lou Gehrig's disease."
He was the husband of Winifred J. (Strain) Skillman.
Mr. Skillman was born in Newark, N.J., and raised and educated in Montclair. N.J.
He worked for a time for 20th Century Fox in New York in their news bureau.
During World War II, he served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 in the central European theater and saw action in Normandy, the Rhineland and Italy.
After his discharge, Mr. Skillman returned to working in sales, primarily in the electronics field. In 1978 he joined Westron Corp of New York City, a manufacturer of industrial lighting equipment, and remained there until his retirement in 1998.
Mr. Skillman was a resident of Truro for the past 32 years where, as a salesman, he worked from his residence.
He was a member of the Cedar Grove New Jersey Presbyterian Church and a member and past master of Newark Masonic Lodge 7 A.F. & A.M.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, William R. Skillman of Portsmouth, Va.; two daughters. Carol Anne Dane of Fairfield, Conn. and Barbara Jane Powell of Canton, Mass.; eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services, visitation and burial are private.

Robert Jackson Skillman and Winifred Janet Strain were married on 2 November 1945. Winifred Janet Strain was born on 3 July 1918 in Bayonne, Hudson, NJ. She was living on 10 September 1999 in Truro, MA. She died on 28 March 2008 at the age of 89 in Canton, MA. Winifred was buried at Fairmount Cemetery in Newark, Essex, NJ.
