5458. Joseph Allen Skillman was born on 28 September 1889 in Grayson Co., KY. He died on 1 November 1976 at the age of 87 in Sequim, WA. He was buried at Sequim View Cemetery in Sequim, WA. Joseph had Social Security Number 492-03-9518. Joseph's father (Richard Amos) died when he was 16. As the oldest boy he had to help raise the family. In 1914 he went to St. Louis, MO and got a job with Am. Express. Shortly thereafter he went to work for the Missouri Pacific RR as switchman and later yardmaster. He retired after 42 years in St. Louis. During his working years he bought and sold real estate. He built a filling station on Kings Highway in 1926. In 1968 Joseph and Anastasia moved to Greenbelt, MD to be near their son and his family. A short time later their daughter Mary Jo moved east to Greenbelt from Palo Alto, CA. When Thomas retired he moved to Sequim, WA. The next year (1974) they moved West to join him. Joseph spent his last 7 years as an invalid due to a crushed hip, diabetes and Parkinson's disease. In 1979 Anastasia moved in with her son Tom and his wife Winnie.

Joseph Allen Skillman and Anastasia Mattingly were married on 25 October 1916 in Axtel, BreckenridgeCo., KY. Anastasia Mattingly, daughter of William Madison Mattingly and Laura B. Wheatley, was born on 10 November 1893 in Breckinridge Co., KY. She died on 15 August 1992 at the age of 98. She was buried at Sequim View Cemetery in Sequim, WA.
