Maryland Defense Force Band

1812 Flag over Ft. McHenryWhat So Proudly We Hailed  MD Defense Force Band

 In celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the "Star Spangled Banner" the Maryland Defense Force Band will present a concert commemorating the music and poem of our national anthem. The program will trace the b
eginning of the melody as a glee club song in England to its becoming our national anthem including early instrumental versions and also-ran melodies. A Baltimore premier of Ferde Grofé's "Ode to the Star-Spangled Banner" will be featured.
The celebration will be introduced by Ranger Vince Vaise in full authentic 1812 uniform and a North County High student bringing in the flag.

Brian Ganz is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation. He has performed with such conductors as Leonard Slatkin, Marin Alsop, and Mstislav Rostropovich. In January 2011 he began a multi-year project performing the entire works of Chopin at the Music Center at Strathmore. Mr. Ganz is on the piano faculty of St. Mary's College of Maryland and the Peabody Conservatory.

Valued by his community and loved by his family, George is helped to see this reality by 2nd class guardian angel Clarence, who, by helping George, earns his angel's wings.

Tribute to Charlie and Joe Byrd

PAAL looks back to honor favorite performer Charlie Byrd who holds distinction of being PAAL's most frequent guest artist. In celebration, jazz impresario Elana Byrd, widow of Charlie's brother Joe, noted bassist, has arranged for PAAL to present the history-making jazz Samba concert CD that was recorded over 50 years ago by the Byrd brothers with Stan Getz. This CD became one of the most successful recordings ever and introduced bossa nova to the United States.  Pictured is Nate  Najar, guitarist.
