INTRODUCTION
This document is the Descendancy of Thomas1 Skillman, the ancestor of most Skillmans in the United States. It was written by Rev. William7 Jones Skillman (Jacob6 R., William5 H., George4, Jacob3, Thomas2 II, Thomas1) and published in twelve installments (called Chapters here) in consecutive quarterly issues of the N.Y. Genealogical & Biographical Record from 1906-08, as shown in the Table of Contents. The author is the third child of No. 143, Jacob6 Runyon Skillman. A total of 164 family groups were included, each identified by the "SOA" number of the Skillman descendant. The writer's group has been moved to a new chapter 13, and the editor has added his own line in that chapter.
The current editor, William10 Alfred Skillman (Wilbur9 N., William8 N., Thomas7, Joseph6 A., Abraham5, Thomas4, Isaac,3 Thomas,2 Thomas1) has converted The Record to electronic format. (Thomas7 is the 10th child of No. 109, Joseph A. Skillman.) The pages were scanned, converted to text by Textbridge Plus, imported into Word 97, and saved in Rich Text Format or RTF (the normal output of Textbridge.) For publication on the Web they are also saved in HTML from Word 97, each Chapter a separate file or Web page along with this Intro/Contents page.
The editor has strived to eliminate errors of character recognition, but there may be a few residual errors, especially confusing are similar characters like l, 1, I, and i. I would appreciate hearing from you if you spot any such errors. English usage at the turn of the century was somewhat different from today. The editor has adopted a "hands-off" policy on this. Obvious typos have been corrected. Editor's comments are enclosed in [brackets]. Some out-of-order section has been put in its proper place with appropriate notes. If you find any typos, or have comments, or wish to submit additional material, you can e-mail me at: wskillman@SkillmansofAmerica.com
In the online version, the Chapter numbers in the Table of Contents are hyper-linked to the chapters. At the top of each chapter are links to the numbered persons in that chapter.
The chapters have been assembled into a single document (SOA_MSTR.pdf, ) in PDF or Portable Document Format. Links have been added from the SOA reference to the actual SOA number and also from each SOA's father to his SOA. This enables climbing or descending a particular line.
